Ganoderma has been shown to increase the activity of glutathione, one of the body's most powerful antioxidants, which is especially important for detoxification processes in the liver. It may also enhance liver regeneration by promoting the growth of new liver cells. Ganoderma may help slow the progression of liver fibrosis by reducing the activation of fibrogenic pathways (e.g., transforming growth factor-beta or TGF-β) and promoting fibroblast apoptosis (celldeath). This can potentially prevent or slow the development of cirrhosis.
