HIV(Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that attacks and weakens the immune system,
specifically
targeting CD4 cells (also T cells),
which are a type of white blood cell that plays a crucial role in the immune response.
Over time, if untreated, HIV damages the immune system to the point where the body becomes more
vulnerable to infections and certain cancers.
AIDS(Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) is the final and most severe stage of HIV infection,
but
not everyone with HIV will progress to AIDS. AIDS occurs
when HIV caused significant damage to the immune system, and the individual becomes highly
vulnerable to
opportunties infections (infections that take advantage of a weakened immune system) and certain
cancers.
