Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious bacterial infection primarily affecting the lungs but can also involve other parts of the body, such as the kidneys, brain, or spine. TB is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It spreads when a person with active TB in their lungs coughs, sneezes, or talks, releasing tiny droplets containing the bacteria into the air, which can be inhaled by others.
