Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, often unpredictable disease that affects the central nervous system(CNS), which consists of the brain and spinal cord. It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers, known as myelin. Myelin helps nerve signals travel efficiently, so when it's damaged or destroyed, nerve signals are slowed or interrupted, leading to a range of neurological symptoms.
