Thyroid Disease refers to disorders that affect the thyroid gland, a small butterfly-shaped gland
located at the base of the neck.
When the thyroid produces too little of the hormones, throxine(T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), it can
lead to a variety of thyroid diseases like:
- Hypothroidism (Underactive Thyroid): occurs when the thyroid gland doesn't produce enough thyroid
hormones, leading to a slowdown of bodily functions.
- Hyperthroidism (Overactive Thyroid): occurs when the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid
hormone,
accelerating the body's metabolism.
